Dry tops are one of the first clothing purchases new paddlers will make to start extending their paddling seasons. Here’s a few reasons why any paddler can splurge on what I consider to be the best drytop on the market right now, the Kokatat Rogue. I’ve been using the same Kokatat Rogue for the last seven years and can’t speak highly enough about this coveted piece of paddling equipment.
- Durability is my first testament to this piece. Most paddling tops don’t survive very long under my miss-treatment and constant battering of use and sun, but this one is tough. The durability factor is worth some extra up front cost.
- Design; its true to size and just fits right. The arms have full range of motion and the waist tunnel is snug enough to keep water out with a simple double tunnel and flat velcro closure. Loose neoprene over the wrist and neck gaskets offer the latex protection from the sun. It has a large mesh front pocket that I honestly never use because you’ll be wearing a life jacket.
- Fabric is GORE-TEX® Pro 3.2 oz 3-layer- “guaranteed to keep you dry” and it does. It’s also the best for durability and allows the garment to breath better than many imitation waterproof laminates. GORE-TEX® still rules supreme for waterproof/breathability and toughness. They also use GORE-TEX® Cordura® in the high wear areas and a lighter weight GORE-TEX® on the inner skirt.
- Between GORE-TEX® and Kokatat you have fantastic life long product support and repair options.
So if you want to stay warmer and drier swing on into Zoar Outdoor and pick up your own Kokatat Rogue and you too will really enjoy this drytop.
